On Saturday, 27 March 2010 from 7.00 pm to 10.00 pm, National Space Agency (ANGKASA) has successfully organised the Light Pollution Campaign at National Planetarium, Kuala Lumpur. This campaign was held in conjunction with Earth Hour 2010 campaign organised by WWF around the world. On this day, people around the world were asked to show support by turning off their lights for 60 minutes at 8.30 pm and ANGKASA has turned off the National Planetarium complex during Earth Hour. The theme highlighted in Light Pollution Campaign is “See the Universe in the whole new light”.

A big crowd of nearly thousand people has turned out at National Planetarium together with their family and friends to show support and participated in some fun activities conducted by National Planetarium. Among these activities which were include night observation using telescopes, making lantern (Earth Hour Lantern), competition of creatively designs with candle lights (Earth Hour Candle Light) and lucky draw number (Lucky Earth Number). In Earth Hour Candle Light activity, 20 groups of participants have registered and taken part in the competition. Three out of 20 groups with the best and creatively designed candle lights were selected and awarded with special gift exclusively from ANGKASA. The campaign was sponsored by Nestle MILO where a MILO sampling van was served at National Planetarium compound.

This campaign aims to increase public awareness about current light pollution problem and its effect at night sky especially in urban neighbourhood. At the same time, it shows support to Earth Hour in the fight against global warming and climate change crisis that are caused by continuously emissions of carbon. With increased awareness of light pollution problem, it is hope that someday soon children will be able to see that the real Milky Way is not just a candy bar but an inspiring sight in the dark night sky.
