Special Day for Hazim’s Wish

On the 8th May 2010, the National Space Agency (ANGKASA) has given full support to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® Malaysia by conducting a special day at the Planetarium Negara for a 4 and a half year old boy named Hazim who has been battling the disease neuroblastoma for over two years. There were approximately 60 people attending the event. It was fortunate that Datuk Dr Sheikh Muzaphar Shukor, Angkawan Negara was having an interview session by TV Thailand at Planetarium Negara at the same time and he caringly spend some times together with Hazim and his family and friends in the event.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation® Malaysia is a newly established charity in Malaysia which is an affiliation to the worldwide organisation Make-A-Wish Foundation (website www.worldwish.org). They grant wishes to children between 3 and 18 years of age with life threatening medical conditions. To date they have granted one wish which occurred on the 5th April to a young 9 year old girl named Aqilah whose wish was to be an air stewardess. Malaysia Airlines partnered with them on this wish and it was a wonderful day for all involved.  Their second wish was taken place on the 23rd April. This wish was for a teenage boy aged 15 years of age, Low Kah Siong whose wish is to stay in one big room with his family of six in the Rasa Sayang Hotel in Penang.  The Rasa Sayang has generously provided them with this room and meals for him and his family for the weekend.

Hazim who is now at a high risk stage of the cancer has been attending HUKM hospital for treatment.  He is a beautiful young intelligent boy so full of life when he is in between his treatment.  His wish is to launch a rocket and the Make-A-Wish Foundation® Malaysia has asked him a few times if this is what he really wants and he is very adamant.

It was the first time Planetarium Negara partnered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation® Malaysia and successfully ran a special day for Hazim by providing the venue, a water rocket launch activity, a tour to the planetarium complex and a special planetarium show for him and his family and friends.  An activity room was also prepared and decorated by the Make-A-Wish Foundation® Malaysia where a party was held based on the theme of rockets and space especially for him and his family and friends.
